- Does poor sleep affect aging?
- Will using sleep aids help?
- Does physical exercise improve sleep?
- Are there foods to encourage sleep?
An early morning online chat with a friend led to researching older age sleeping. Neither of us sleeps more than 4 or 5 hours a night and usually, those hours are interrupted.
There is a lot of about sleeping and aging on the Internet.
"Not sleeping well can lead to a number of problems. Older adults who have poor nighttime sleep are more likely to have a depressed mood, attention and memory problems, excessive daytime sleepiness, more nighttime falls, and use more over-the-counter or prescription sleep aids. Poor sleep is also associated with a poorer quality of life."

Sleep and Growing Older
Exercise and sleep:
Several studies and polls I read indicate exercise can help us sleep better. Even mild exercise will benefit sleep.
Sleep aids:
From what I've learned, some sleep aids can be addictive. Melatonin is a natural sleep aid. As we age, our bodies slow down production of Melatonin. It works for some people and IMHO, worth trying.
Food to beat insomnia:
Almonds, turkey, dairy. eggs. Following a healthy, natural food plan might combat sleep problems.
If you believe you are sleep deprived consult your professional medical adviser.
